Bahamas Series

Bahamas Series

Nassau, Bahamas

I have decided to do something a little different. I want to do a series about places to visit and give ideas for a vacation or if your like me and want to island hop.

Today we are going to talk about Nassau, Bahamas.

Nassua Paradise Island is actually two islands! You have New Providence Island of which Nassua is the capital and Paradise Island. These islands are less than a half a mile apart, so they are commonly referred to as Nassau Paradise Island.

This island offers miles and miles of powdery white sand with the stunning Bahama Blue waters.

There are two bridges that connect Paradise Island and and New Providence Island together. New Providence is roughly 80 square miles and Paradise Island is only 685 acres. This makes it easy to travel around to see the next spot.

These islands are part British and part West African. These islands offer colorful homes, mini-mansions coupled with small hotels and mega resorts for the picture perfect destinations.

With 300 days of sunshine a year, it makes the perfect condition to enjoy snorkeling, diving, swimming, kite surfing and laying out on the beach under a palm.

This island offers some of the most popular beaches. The most popular beaches in Nassua are Cable Beach, Love Beach, Saunders Beach, Junkanoo Beach, Cave Beach and Jaws Beach. The favorite beaches on Paradise Island include Paradise Beach, Cabbage Beach and Cove Beach.

If you love history, you will love diving into the islands history.  The island was founded in 1670 by British noblemen who brought British settlers with them. They built a fort and named it Charles Town in honor of England's King Charles II. In 1684 the town was burned to the ground during the Raid on Charles Town. In 1695 under Governor Nicholas Trott and renamed Nassau in honor of King William III. There is so much history that we could go on and on about. One place that I think would be amazing to go see is the Queen's staircase.

A popular festival to visit would be Junkanoo. This is an energetic, colorful street parade of brightly costumed people dancing. The word Junaknoo is derived from the name of the founder John Kanoo. The celebration occurs on December 26, July 10 and January 1. It begins in the early hours of the morning(1:00 AM) and ending around 10 AM.

The best way to experience Nassua is a self guided tour. There are historical sites, political and cultural centers that you can visit. There are several places that you can visit, The Nassau Government house, The Queen's staircase, Fort Fincastle and Gray Heritage Village.

You also don't want to miss heading down to Exuma to see the pigs swimming at the beach. They are friendly and will come up to you.

From here you can hop a charter plane and head to the next island!

Happy Travels!
